ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - May 22, 2025 – The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has been named a finalist for the 2025 EPIC Awards, presented by the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP).
The December 2024 issue of Critical Care Nurse (CCN), AACN’s bimonthly clinical practice journal for progressive, acute and critical care nurses, is one of two finalists in the Journals category. The category recognizes peer-reviewed periodicals — either single issues or multiple issues from a single volume — that feature original research, review articles or scholarly commentary evaluated by experts for quality and credibility.
The other finalist in the category is the American Journal of Nursing (AJN), published by Wolters Kluwer Health. AJN is the oldest and largest circulating nursing journal in the world.
Annette Bourgault, PhD, RN, CNL, FAAN, has served as editor in chief of CCN since 2019. She is an associate professor and a PhD program director at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and a nurse scientist with Orlando Health.
“Over the past 40 years, Critical Care Nurse has become a trusted source of information related to the bedside care of critically and acutely ill patients,” she said. “To be recognized with our colleagues from AJN is noteworthy, and the winners are truly the nurses and other healthcare professionals and their patients who benefit from the valuable content within our pages.”
The EPIC Awards program recognizes and celebrates remarkable teams and individuals in the publishing, information technology and communications sectors for their significant contributions to scholarly communication through innovation, creativity and dedication. More than 90 entries were received this year.
By highlighting exceptional work in five key categories — Tools and Products, Publications, Marketing, Media and Initiatives — the program sets a standard for excellence, encouraging others in the industry to push boundaries and achieve new heights.
All finalists will be recognized and the winners in each category will be announced at the EPIC Awards celebration and dinner May 29, during the SSP annual meeting in Baltimore.
